- PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite have been officially banned by the Government of India on September 2nd, 2020, under section 69A of the IT act.
- The ban was a result of security concerns related to data theft and unauthorized transmission of user information, following the previous ban of Chinese apps in India.
- The Confederation of All India Traders expressed gratitude for the government’s decision, citing concerns about apps like PUBG adversely affecting the younger generation.

A few months back the Indian government had banned several Chinese mobile apps, due to tensions arising at the India-China borders. TikTok was one of the most famous applications which were banned but, PUBG did not feature in the list at that time.

However, PUBG Mobile Lite is one of the 118 Chinese mobile apps which have been freshly banned by the Indian government on 2nd September 2020. The ministry has said that the apps have been banned under section 69A of the IT act.

It is also said that these apps have been engaging in activities that cause security issues to the country and public law and order. The government has acted upon several complaints and reports claiming that the apps have been stealing data and transmitting user information in an unauthorized manner to servers located outside India.
Why Government Banned PUBG Mobile?
“ This move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security, and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace, ” said a statement from the ministry.
Praveen Khandelwal , the secretary-general of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), said, “On behalf of the business community of the country, we express our gratitude and compliments to the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking such an important step as per the wishes of the people of India. Apps like PUBG were spoiling the next generation.”
